I’m not sure it gets much cooler than this for industry events. Pecha Kucha (PK) is a Japanese presentation methodology. Sort of like TED talks meet Haiku. You have 20 slides and each slide is shown for exactly 20 seconds. It doesn’t matter if you finish early or late. You have exactly 20 seconds per slide, which amounts to about 6:40 per presentation. These have been hosted by the San Diego Architectural Foundation (SDAF) and have a loose connection to architecture. Not always, but most of the time.
We went to last weeks presentation and were blown away by some of the presenters, mostly we liked Eric Naslund’s (StudioE Architects) presentation. He talked about a period in San Diego’s history where designers romanticized about how this city was going to be built. It was to be Barcelona on the Pacific. But something went horribly wrong. His presentation was a call to action for designers to be romantic, push clients to do more with their projects. I’m on board. Very inspired, and can’t wait for the next PK!
