The people over at wired have a cool article on our favorite material, concrete. Don’t worry glass, aluminum and asphalt, we love you guys too. Concrete by far is one of the most ubiquitous building materials, and has been.

One thing we learned is that cement production contributes 3.5% of US emissions. Using less stronger concrete can help with sustainability within our industry.

Rouzbeh Shahsavari wrote a paper after a study published in Applied Materials and Interfaces on evaluating how molecular defects can increase the strength of concrete. The benefits are compelling and while a few years off, could likely be a mix that is used in pre-cast applications.
